Cerita rakyat from Central Java

Long time ago, lived an old women named Mbok Sirni. She lived by herself because her husband had long passed away and she had no children. Every day, she prayed so God would give her a child. One night, when she was praying, a giant passed her house and heard her pray. “I can give you a child on one condition,” the giant said to Mbok Sirni, “You must give the child back to me when it is six years old.” Mbok Sirni was so happy; she did not think about the risk of losing the child later and agreed to take the giant’s offer. The giant then gave her a bunch of cucumber seeds. “Plant it around your house.” The giant then left without saying anything else. In the morning, Mbok Sirni planted the seeds. The seeds grew within mere days, and blossomed plentifully.Not longer after that, a big golden cucumber grew from plants. Carefully, Mbok Sirni plucked the golden cucumber and carried it home. With caution and care, she sliced the cucumber. She was very surprised to see a beautiful baby girl inside the cucumber. She then named the baby Timun Emas (it means Golden Cucumber). 

Years passed by and Timun Emas has grew to become a lovely and beautiful little girl. She was also smart and kind. Mbok Sirni loved her very much. But she kept thinking about the time the giant would take Timun Emas away from her. One night, Mbok Sirni had a dream. In order to save Timun Emas from the giant, she had to meet the holy man who lived in Mount Gundul. The next morning, Mbok Sirni took leave of Timun Emas to go to Mount Gundul. The holy man then gave her four little bags, each one containing cucumber seeds, needles, salt, and shrimp paste. “Timun Emas can use these to protect herself,” said the holy man to Mbok Sirni. 

A few days later, the giant came to see Mbok Sirni about her promise. “Mbok Sirni! Where is Timun Emas?” shouted the giant. "My daughter, take these bag with you. It can save you from the giant. Now, run through the back door," said Mbok Sirni. But the giant saw Timun Emas running to the woods. The giant was angry. Starved and enraged, he rushed toward Timun Emas. Mbok Sirni tried to stop him, but the giant was unstoppable. 

The giant was getting closer and closer, so Timun Emas opened the first bag she got from Mbok Sirni. Inside the bag were cucumber seeds. She threw the seeds, and instantly they grew into large cucumber field. But the giant ate them all, giving him more strength. As the giant was getting close, Timun Emas took the second bag with needles inside and spilled the content behind her. The needles turned into bamboo trees, sharp and thorny. The giant’s body was scratched and bled. “Aaargh, I’ll get you, Timun Emas!” shouted the giant as he tried to get himself out from the bamboo field. He made it and still chasing Timun Emas. 

Timun Emas then reached the third bag and spilled the salt inside. The ground which the salt touched turned into a deep sea. The giant almost drown and had to swim to cross the sea. After some time, he managed to get out from the water. Timun Emas saw the giant coming, so she reached for the last bag. She took the shrimp paste and threw it. The shrimp paste became a big swamp of boiling mud. The giant was trapped in the middle of the swamp. The mud slowly but surely drowned him. Helpless, he roared out, “Help! Heeeeelp…!” Then the giant drown and died. Timun Mas then immediately went home. Since then, Timun Emas and Mbok Sirni live happily ever after.***

Microsoft Akan Membeli Yahoo yang Kesulitan Keuangan dan Hampir Bangkrut

Yahoo sedang mengalami kesulitan keuangan sehingga berencana untuk pengambilalihan kepemilikan perusahaan dirinya dengan Microsoft. Apa kamu tahu ??

Kabar yang beredar, Microsoft menawar Yahoo senilai $44,6 milliar dollar. Sementara Yahoo menganggap tawaran Microsoft untuk Yahoo dengan nilai $31 per lembar saham dinilai masih dibawah nilai yang mereka harapkan. Dalam report tersebut dilaporkan bahwa Yahoo mengharapkan penawaran minimal senilai $40 per lembar saham. Beberapa pihak menganggap itu sebagai taktik negoisasi daripada penolakkan final, maka Yahoo menekan Microsoft untuk mendapatkan harga lebih tinggi dari sebelumnya.

Sementara Microsoft menunggu jawaban dari Yahoo, dari pihak Yahoo mengaku masih membutuhkan waktu untuk mempertimbangkan tawaran tersebut. Yahoo masih mempertimbangkan beberapa kemungkinan yang dapat diambil sebagai jalan keluar, termasuk tawaran Google untuk membantu masalah keuangan Yahoo. Tawaran Google merupakan strategi Google untuk menggagalkan langkah akuisisi yang dilancarkan Microsoft. Seperti yang diketahui, Yahoo telah merumahkan sekitar seribu karyawannya untuk memperbaiki keuangannya agar kembali dapat meraih kepercayaan investor. Hingga saat ini Yahoo juga masih mempertimbangkan kemungkinan agar perusahaannya tetap bertahan sebagai perusahaan independent seperti saat ini.

Hal ini membuat Microsoft semakin tak sabar menunggu keputusan Yahoo. Microsoft rupanya tidak main-main dengan tawaran yang diberikannya kepada Yahoo. Bahkan dilaporkan bahwa Microsoft mungkin akan rela meminjam uang untuk memenuhi target akuisisi-nya dengan Yahoo. Microsoft Chief Financial Officer, Chris Liddell mengatakan bahwa kemungkinan untuk pertama kalinya dalam sejarah perusahaannya, Microsoft akan meminjam uang hanya untuk memenuhi target akuisisi tersebut. Menurut Microsoft, tawaran tersebut merupakan tawaran tersebut sudah merupakan tawaran yang sangat baik untuk Yahoo. Selain itu Lindell juga menyanggah isu yang mengatakan bahwa Microsoft telah membeli saham Yahoo di pasar terbuka.

Banyak pihak meramalkan bahwa merger antara kedua raksasa Internet ini merupakan salah satu langkah untuk menghadang dominasi Google pada pasar iklan online. Iklan online sendiri hingga saat ini merupakan lahan rejeki paling potensial di Internet. Tentunya diharapkan penggabungan ini akan melambungkan pendapatan kedua belah pihak.

Dan akhirnya pada tanggal 8 Juni 2011, Microsoft secara final memutuskan untuk membeli Yahoo. Berita ini dikonfirmasikan setelah terjadinya pertemuan antara wakil dari Microsoft dengan pimpinan Yahoo, Roy Bostock bersama dengan anggota pemilik saham pada Yahoo.

Selain itu, Yahoo, and Google saat ini telah mengumumkan persetujuan kerjasama iklan non-eksklusif dimana Yahoo akan menyediakan akses kepada Google’s Adsense  untuk pencarian dan content program periklanan di wilayah U.S. dan Daerah Canada. Untuk kesepakatan ini, disepakati pendapatan setahun sebesar $800 juta dan operating cash flow sebesar $250 juta sampai $450 juta diharapkan dapat membantu rekening keuangan Yahoo. Dengan begitu, persaingan usaha pencarian antara Microsoft, Google dan Yahoo berlanjut berpacu ke arah Web. Berdasarkan pembicaraan antara Microsoft dan Yahoo, pihak Yahoo mengatakan bahwa pihak Microsoft tidak mengutarakan besarnya bunga dalam pengerjaan seluruhnya yang diperoleh oleh pihak Yahoo bahkan dibatas-batas harga yang diusulkan bersama.

Microsoft mengeluarkan biaya $33 per lembar untuk membeli kepemilikan dari pihak Yahoo yang total keseluruhannya mencapai $47.5 milyar. CEO Yahoo Jerry Yang beserta dengan dewan direktur perusahaan mengusulkan bahwa nilai penjualan Yahoo lebih dari nilai penawaran dari pihak Microsoft. 

Kemudian Microsoft mengajukan proposal transaksi alternatif yang berisikan mengenai pembelian bisnis pencarian Yahoo saja. Untuk hal tersebut, Microsoft menunjukkan kesediaannya untuk membeli Yahoo seharga $35 perlembar. Penawaran ini telah dievaluasi dan ditolak oleh pihak dewan direktur dari Yahoo. Alasan yang muncul sederhana, masa depan Yahoo akan terasa gelap dan suram tanpa adanya bisnis pencarian. Tetapi saat ini, pihak Yahoo berkeinginan bahwa pihak Microsoft untuk dapat membeli keseluruhan dari perusahaan.

Apabila pihak Microsoft mengambil alih Yahoo, maka pihak Microsoft akan mendapatkan 2 keuntungan. Hal ini meliputi perpaduan antara Yahoo! IM dan email yang akan membuat Microsoft tenar, penggunaan Yahoo dalam pencarian yang dirubah untuk memasarkan teknologi, dan yang paling penting Microsoft akan menikmati tempat kedua dalam bisnis pencarian setelah Google.

Dari kesepakatan yang dilakukan dengan pihak Google, Yahoo mengarahkan untuk memulihkan harga saham yang telah jatuh dimana menyebabkan dalam kaitan diperpanjangnya pembicaraan kedua belah pihak untuk pengalihan kepemilikan. Yahoo! saat ini berkonsentrasi pada pemulihan management karyawan yang mana saat ini berhenti satu demi satu.

Dan sekarang yang jadi pertanyaan mengapa pihak Microsoft begitu ingin membeli Yahoo ? Apakah ini semata-mata hanya trik persaingan para raksasa Internet di dunia maya ?? Coba kita baca pendapat Bill Gates tentang hal ini…

Jika ditanyakan kepada Bill Gates apa yang membuatnya sangat ingin meminang Yahoo, hingga rela memberikan penawaran seharga lebih dari $40 milliar dollar, maka jawabannya adalah orang-orang yang ada di dalam Yahoo. Yap, Billl Gates sangat menginginkan orang-orang yang berdiri di balik Yahoo selama ini. Bukan produk perusahaan, iklan, ataupun market share yang dibidik oleh Gates, namun para ahli yang berdiri di balik kesuksesan Yahoo tersebutlah yang diinginkan Microsoft untuk membuat langkah maju menyaingi Google.

Dalam sebuah interview setelah ia menjadi pembicara di Standford University kemarin (19/2), Gates mengatakan bahwa untuk membangun sebuah aplikasi mesin yang handal, dibutuhkan tenaga ahli yang handal untuk menangani kebutuhan algoritma program dan membangun infrastruktur komputasi yang handal. “Dibutuhkan banyak tenaga ahli komputer untuk mewujudkan fenomena tersebut”, kata Gates, seperti yang dilansir news.com. “Semakin banyak tenaga ahli yang dapat dikumpulkan untuk mengerjakan hal tersebut, semakin cepat pula nantinya pengejaran rating dapat dilakukan. Karena walaupun perusahaan advertiser dan banyaknya pengunjung merupakan hal yang penting, namun menempatkan ahli-ahli yang tepat merupakan suatu kunci dari semua itu”, sambung Gates.

Lebih lanjut Microsoft mengindikasikan bahwa dengan atau tanpa Yahoo pun mereka tetap akan membuat rencana untuk membendung Google. Untuk itu Microsoft menyatakan bahwa rencana tersebut sebenarnya akan dapat berjalan lebih cepat jika mereka berhasil mengakuisisi Yahoo, daripada berjalan sendiri.

“Disamping untuk memecahkan masalah kebutuhan akan tenaga ahli, kombinasi dengan Yahoo akan membuat akselerasi yang lebih baik, karena Yahoo mempunyai banyak tenaga ahli yang handal yang telah banyak mengerjakan banyak hal pula,” kata Gates.
